Why do I do what I do?

My 3 favorite traits and behaviors in people are ‘kindness, empathy, and compassion’.

I feel drawn towards people who share these traits and I feel a sense of connection with them. On the other hand, I distance myself from people who don’t display kindness, empathy, and compassion.

I also like the ethical principle of:

“In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.”

The Golden Rule

As much as I like the positive nature of Zig Ziglar’s quote and the Golden Rule. They could be negatively interpreted as being selfish. In that “I’m only being nice to you because I want you to be nice to me”…

A modified version of the Golden Rule which I prefer is:

Treat people how you would want them to treat those that you love and care about the most.

Wanting to help and be of service to other people who are like me, or hold similar views to me is the reason ‘why’ I do what I do.
